New energy and renewables
In StatoilHydro, we recognize the need to develop new sources of energy. That's why we're putting considerable effort into developing wind power, wave power, bioenergy and hydrogen. Read more about our initiatives in the articles below.
Biofuels
StatoilHydro has a longstanding tradition as a pioneer in use of eco-friendly fuels. Biofuels are an important sustainable energy carrier which could contribute significantly to reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Hydrogen
Hydrogen is one of the most important energy carriers of the future. That is why we are spending time, effort and resources to further business development and research into hydrogen.
Wind
StatoilHydro is taming the wind's forces. We are actively investing in technology development and production of energy from wind power stations.
Kyoto mechanisms for CO2 reduction
StatoilHydro actively supports the Kyoto treaty and its mechanisms in our development projects.
Wave energy
StatoilHydro has invested in wave power technology developed by Ocean Power Delivery (OPD). ODP will build the world’s first commercial wave power plant off the coast of Portugal.
Tidal power
StatoilHydro is a joint owner of the world’s first tidal power turbine delivering electricity to the onshore grid. Through our ownership in Hammerfest Strøm AS, we contribute to development of technology for production of energy from tidal currents.
Combined heat/power (CHP)
The rapidly increasing electricity consumption combined with stricter requirements for a cleaner environment has led to increased focus on energy efficient solutions.
