The processing plant at Kollsnes west of Bergen treats gas from the Troll, Kvitebjørn and Visund fields in the North Sea, and can handle up to 143 million standard cubic metres per day.
Installation of a sixth export compressor at the complex in 2005 expanded capacity from the original 120 million scm per day on 1 October 2006.
Natural gas liquids
NGL is separated from the rich gas at Kollsnes, with the remaining dry gas pressurised before being driven by large compressors through the gas trunklines to customers.
Kvitebjørn and Visund
It was resolved in 1999 that gas from Kvitebjørn should be landed at Kollsnes. The composition of this production stream makes it very suitable for further processing into upgraded products.
A new facility costing just under NOK 3 billion was built to extract NGL from Kvitebjørn’s rich gas. Ready on 1 October 2005, this plant opened a fresh era for the Kollsnes complex.
Gas from Visund also started coming ashore at the processing plant in October 2005.
With a capacity of 26 million standard cubic metres of gas per day and great flexibility, the new NGL plant will also be able to process gas from future field developments.
Vestprosess
The Vestprosess pipeline transports NGL from the Kollsnes plant to the Mongstad refinery further north for fractionation into propane, butanes and naphtha.
