The plan for development and operation of Volve in the Norwegian North Sea was approved on 22 April 2005.
This oil field which lies about 200 kilometres west of Stavanger at the southern end of the Norwegian sector came on stream 12 February 2008.
The development plan is based on production from the Mærsk Inspirer jack-up rig, with Navion Saga used as a storage ship to hold crude oil before export. Gas is piped to the Sleipner A platform for final processing and export. The field is expected to produce for four-five years.
Recoverable reserves are put at 78.6 million barrels of oil and 1.5 billion cubic metres of gas. At plateau Volve is expected to produce some 50,000 barrels per day.
The field will be developed with eight wells.
