The Svalex Arctic expedition 

Every year, approximately 90 students taking petroleum-related subjects and 30 professors together with invited guests, participate in the Svalex expedition.

 

Svalex  is a multidisciplinary integration of students attending petroleum-related courses at the Norwegian universities of Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Tromsø, the University centre in Svalbard and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. This project is an annual expedition to the northern Svalbard (Spitsbergen) islands.

Svalex is sponsored by StatoilHydro and has been run since 2001 with more than 950 participants in total. Every year, approximately 90 students taking petroleum-related subjects and 30 professors together with invited guests follow the field course. Participants are grouped in multidisciplinary teams consisting of students with backgrounds in geology, geophysics and petroleum technology.
