Turkey represents the most important market for natural gas from Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz field in the Caspian, where StatoilHydro has a holding.
The group has had a Turkish presence since 2001 to build up operations relating to the sale of natural gas in partnership with Koç Holding, the country’s largest industrial group.
Koç Statoil Gas Marketing company has been created, along with an organisation for distributing liquefied natural gas by road tanker. Deliveries started in the summer of 2004.
StatoilHydro is assessing possible involvement in gas-fired power stations and in companies for pipeline distribution of natural gas.
