StatoilHydro has been awarded the operatorship for and an 80% holding in the two Egyptian deepwater blocks 9 and 10 in the Mediterranean, where the water depth is 1,000-3,000 metres.

This represents our first exploration acreage in Egypt. The other 20% is held by Sonatrach International Petroleum E&P (Sipex), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Algerian state oil and gas company Sonatrach.
