Gasification

Gasification has regained a rising interest due to high energy prices and emphasize on growing worldwide demand for clean fuels, and environmental issues (CO2 management)

Technology surveillance of new processes and technologies is therefor an important part of the Syngas and Methanol Project.

Around the world, gasification is considered for a variety of feedstock and applications.

A special attention is given for coal-to liquids (CtL) and refinery- or upgrader-based hydrogen and utility projects.

Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power production is by several parties proposed as a possible alternative to pulverized coal plants (PC).

The project evaluate different feedstock as coal, coke, pitch and biomass, but focuses on the production of syngas to liquid chemicals and hydrogen products, rather than electricity and utility production.

Focus for the technology surveillance work is:

  • Gasification technologies (including pre-treatment)
  • Syngas treating and downstream integration
