Hydrogen cars
Eleven hydrogen cars are based at the filling station at Herøya.
The cars are Toyota Prius hybrids with electrical engines and combustion engines which have been rebuilt for hydrogen.
The station at Herøya is one of two filling stations for hydrogen which have been established to date on the “Hydrogen Highway” between Stavanger and Oslo.
The other is in Stavanger.
Hydrogen in pipes from Rafnes
The station in Porsgrunn receives hydrogen from the petrochemical plants at Rafnes, which produce hydrogen as a by-product.
Hydrogen from Rafnes is transported through a pipeline to the station at Herøya, which is the world’s first publicly-available hydrogen station linked to a major industrial plant.
The station is located at Herøya Industrial Park in Porsgrunn. StatoilHydro is one of the partners in the HyNor development project, and the station is a part of this collaboration.
