Energy from landfill gas – Energikilden

Energy from landfill gas – Energikilden

StatoilHydro has invested in the company Energikilden, which is involved in electricity and heat production from landfill gas.

Landfill gas is a sustainable energy source, and combustion of methane from waste-sites represents a reduction in greenhouse gasses.

Several plants in operation

Energikilden was founded in 2003 and currently has six plants in operation which produce and sell electricity and heat (cogeneration).

In 2006, 12,800 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity were produced for sale. In total, the plants have an installed production capacity of 3.0 megawatt (MW) electricity.

StatoilHydro owns 82% of Energikilden, and ETech Process owns 18%.
