The point of the conference is to give the children an opportunity to learn more about environmental challenges and solutions.
The participants will get to meet other children who care about the environment, and they will get a chance to express their opinion to the leaders of today. The conference shall be an inspiration to children to think globally and act locally.
Tunza is a word in Swahili, a language that is spoken in East Africa. It means "to treat with care and affection".
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) organises Tunza in different parts of the world in cooperation with local organisations.
StatoilHydro is one of the founders of Ung Agenda 21 (Young Agenda 21). The foundation has held several international environmental conferences.
The first Tunza conference was held in 1995. The UK, Kenya, Canada, the USA and Malaysia have all held conferences.
About half of the participants at Tunza 2008 will be from the Nordic countries.
The motto of the conference is "Creating Change" ("Å skape forandring").
