HSE24 Kårstø

All personnel due to work at the Kårstø processing plant north of Stavanger have been required to take a new and expanded HSE training programme since September 2006.

The aim is to avoid major accidents and personal injuries so that everyone can return home as healthy and whole as when they arrived at work.

We are also seeking to enhance awareness of the natural environment, partly by encouraging employees to see what they can do to reduce their own pollution footprint.

Participants in the training programme work through its six modules with the aid of conversations, consciousness-raising and reflection.

The course differs somewhat from other HSE education programmes, both in form and content. Attention focuses on all barriers, and not just those used by operators at the sharp end.

Modules on lifestyle and the working environment also highlight long-term effects to which workers are exposed, and not only acute damage which occurs there and then.

To achieve the best possible learning by adults, the programme's form is based on strong involvement and variation. Throughout, participants are challenged to consider how they themselves can make life better and safer at work and at home.
