Planned informal professional networks for impact assessments directed at development aid through the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation's (Norad) programme "Oil for development" and oil and gas development in Arctic areas.
"Oil for development": Contact meeting with Norad / the Ministry of the Environment concerning contributions to the development of expertise in impact assessments for countries in the "Oil for development" programme.
Take part in a separate programme specifically aimed at around 20 invited delegates from countries in the "Oil for development" programme, which Norad is planning to hold during the IAIA08 conference in Perth, Australia in order to raise expertise in impact assessments in these recipient countries.
Implement outstanding actions in order to achieve the goal of zero harmful discharges to sea. Measure the effect of the actions.
The average discharge of oil in water from StatoilHydro's installations in 2007 was less than 10 mg/l. The completion status of major modification projects varies.
The last projects are expected to start up in October 2008. This includes two reinjection facilities and a major study to assess the reinjection of produced water (Increased Oil Recovery - IOR - on Troll C). Effect measurements (EIF calculations) of actions from 2000 to 2007 are planned for 2008.
Implement Environment Impact Factor (EIF) air and EIF drilling. Further develop and test EIF onshore plants for discharges to sea. Test EIF acute.
EIF air and drilling taken into use. EIF onshore plants has been further developed and tested on a real case. EIF acute has been tested on a real case. |
Further development and validation of the method for EIF onshore plants with discharges to sea (to be completed in 2009).
Further development (adjustments based on tests in 2008) and implementation of EIF acute (2008/2009). |
Complete the action plan for reducing nitrogen dioxide most cost-efficiently after tax levied by Norwegian authorities.
StatoilHydro's action plan for NOx reductions in Norway are to be revised after the agreement, late 2007, between the Norwegian industry and the Ministry of Environment on a National NOx reduction plan. StatoilHydro support this agreement, and will join the Industry's NOx-fund, which is the basis for the national NOx reduction plan.
An agreement between the Ministry of the Environment and the Confederation of Norwegian Industry (NHO) and its member organisations in the industry was signed in January 2008. Endorsement of the fund solution and follow-up during 2008.
Draw up an overview of environmental aspects relating to biodiversity in different business areas, including examples of actions that make a positive contribution to preserving biological diversity.
Assessments of challenges relating to biodiversity in exploration and development projects, including the oil sands project in Canada, the planning of a new gas export pipeline to the Continent and exploration drilling off the coast of eastern Greenland and Mozambique. In Belgium, possible actions that could produce positive effects on biodiversity were assessed in connection with the possible landing of a new gas pipeline. A more systematic review of the biodiversity challenges was postponed because of the merger between Statoil and Hydro.
Carry out a systematic analysis of R&D needs, targeting biodiversity in relation to the different business activities in new StatoilHydro, including challenges relating to new energy. Play an active part in the IPIECA/OGP Biodiversity Working Group, chair the working group and thus be a driving force for improving the oil industry's efforts and reputation in relation to protecting biodiversity in general. |
SEAPOP will be continued. Support the project for the marking of Ivory Gulls with satellite transmitters in the Norwegian and Russian Arctic.
SEAPOP (a Norwegian seabird research programme) has been continued with the main focus on Lofoten and the Barents Sea. The company was represented on the steering committee for the programme. Satellite marking of Ivory Gulls was carried out by the Norwegian Polar Institute with our support. The project has provided substantial new knowledge about the movements of the species in the Arctic. The results have been made available on the internet.
Play an active part in the SEAPOP programme and contribute to its expansion to cover the whole of Norway. A separate study is planned, focusing on nesting seabirds on office buildings and in base areas, and on possible measures that can reduce harm and conflicts, while at the same time showing due consideration for the birds.
