Offshore wind power has the potential to develop into one of our primary sources of energy in the future. We are currently evaluating a business project for the development of a pilot for a floating offshore wind turbine called Hywind. An investment decision is expected in 2008. Enova has granted NOK 59 million for a planned demonstration pilot.
Hywind includes a new concept for producing power at sea, combining standard offshore wind turbines with new technology, which harnesses the forces of the wind and waves to produce power.
The concept of Hywind may open up new opportunitities offshore, in deep waters. The technology has great potential as a renewable energy source, reducing carbon dioxide emissions and supplying power to offshore and onshore installations.
