In Salah
In Salah gas field in the Sahara desert.
Deliveries began in July 2004 from Algeria’s In Salah gas field in the Sahara desert. Being Algeria’s third largest gas development the field is operated by Statoilhydro, BP and Sonatrach.
StatoilHydro is conducting several projects in the region, including the In Salah South Field and compression to maintain plateau production on In Salah. The management of these projects will give valuable and relevant experience for further development of oil and gas projects in the Sahara. The production capacity is 9 billion cubic meters per year.
In Amenas
The In Amenas gas-project came on stream in June 2006.
The In Amenas gas-project is located some 1200 km from the coast towards the Libyan border and encompasses exploration of four fields. The significant Tiguentourine field is being developed in phase one; while in phase two (anticipated commencing in 2014 ) three satelite fields will be brought on-stream.
In Amenas is connected to the central transportation infrastructure at Ohanet with three export pipelines of approximately 90 km each. The operatorship is shared between BP, Sonatrach and StatoilHydro in a joint venture. In Amenas came on stream in June 2006.
Hassi Mouina
Statoil was awarded operatorship for the Hassi Mouina gas block in July 2004. The block covers an area of 23,000 square kilometres in the Timimoun Basin. Hasssi Mouina is located close to the In Salah gas field.
In August 2008 StatoilHydro together with its partner Sonatrach, made a sixth discovery in the Hassi Mouina licence. The existence of dry gas was confirmed in exploration well TNK-2 in the southern part of the licence.
StatoilHydro has a 75 percent interest in the block, and Sonatrach has 25 percent.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
The CSR activities in Algeria focus upon education which is part of “local spin-offs”, which is one of the corporate defined CSR axes.
The Algerian Petroleum Institute (IAP)
The IAP institute in Algeria.
StatoilHydro has a 10 percent stake in the Algerian Petroleum Institute (IAP Spa) and is a member of the board.
Our partner, the Algerian national oil company Sonatrach, has an 82 percent interest. Our aim is to develop the institute. It gives us access to the oil and gas industry network and is a useful business development tool.
Drilling & Completion project
The drilling & completion project was launched under a memorandum of understanding signed with Sonatrach in 2005.
It is a collaboration project between StatoilHydro, Sonatrach and IAP aimed at revising and improving the education in this area.
The plan for 2008 is to sponsor 15 candidates that will complete a 2-year drilling education adjusted to our needs.
The best way to further improve the drilling education is by using it. This enables StatoilHydro to develop know-how, invest in the Algerian human resources and build local competence.
The Safe Behaviour Pogramme (SBP)
StatoilHydro, Sonatrach and IAP are collaborating about actions to improve the general health, safety and environment awareness. The Norwegian Safe Behaviour Programme has been adapted to Algerian conditions.
The first workshop was organised in May 2007, and the SBP will be attended by all Sonatrach employees, including the employees of subsidiaries - a total of 120 000 people. The handover was completed in 2007, but StatoilHydro will assist and follow up in 2008 whenever needed.
