Øystein Michelsen has a Master of Science degree from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and was employed by Norsk Hydro’s research centre in Porsgrunn in 1981.
He has held a number of managerial positions in Norsk Hydro’s oil activities, including the post as platform manager and later as head of the Oseberg area.
From 2004 he headed the operations unit of Norsk Hydro’s oil activities before he became senior vice president for StatoilHydro’s operations north cluster, based in Stjørdal, in 2007.
